“I have been working with Empowering U to support a complex discharge from hospital for a gentleman who lacks capacity regarding his care and support needs. Since the age of 16 he has had over 20 admissions to psychiatric hospital, been a victim of cuckolding and made homeless due to being targeted by professional gangs.
Due to a decline in his complex mental health needs, he has had a very lengthy admission to hospital and primarily due to the dedication, innovation, risk assessing and attention to detail from Empowering U, he has now been successfully discharged to his own property with 24 hour support.
Without this scheme being available from Empowering U he would likely be in a low or medium secure hospital detained with significant restriction of liberty under the Mental health Act (1983). However, he is now increasingly happy, thriving and building trust with his support workers in order to build a positive life for himself in the community.
I find that Empowering U are working in a legally competent manner and place the person at the centre of their support, while focusing on their own strengths, interests and goals.
